What is Generative Engine Optimization?
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of improving how clearly a business can be understood and represented in AI-generated answers. It combines visibility testing, useful website content, consistent business information and verifiable evidence. The aim is to make your business easier to discover, accurately describe and consider when customers research services.
For example, a customer may ask “Which builders work in Perth?” or “珀斯装修公司怎么选?”. A GEO diagnostic checks whether your business appears in the selected answers, which sources are cited, how competitors are described and what information is missing.
Know where you stand
Build a documented baseline for the questions your potential customers ask.
Find practical improvements
Identify unclear service information, missing evidence and questions your site does not answer.
Track changes over time
Compare repeat tests with completed work and available enquiry or website data.

Request an implementation plan
Before starting, we confirm the business, target market, test questions, platforms, language and reporting schedule. Monthly reporting provides recommendations; website implementation is quoted under the implementation service. Annual package scope and payment terms are confirmed in writing.
Which GEO service should I choose?
- Choose the $99 diagnostic when you need a starting snapshot of 10 customer questions before deciding on further work.
- Choose the $199 monthly report when your own team or developer will make the changes. It tracks 20 core questions, up to five competitors and includes one approximately 30-minute online discussion each month.
- Choose implementation from $999 per month when you need MOSTWA to carry out an agreed action plan. The proposal names the pages, tasks, access, responsibilities and monthly work volume.
All prices are AUD excluding GST. Testing coverage, languages, platforms and the number of runs are agreed before work begins; a question count does not imply unlimited tests across every platform.
What makes the cost or scope change?
Additional locations, languages, platforms, content production, custom development, external publisher fees and paid media can change the scope. We identify these separately in the proposal before starting.
What will I receive?
A diagnostic records the tested questions and observed findings. A monitoring report compares the agreed question set over time and prioritises actions. An implementation record links each completed task to the affected URL, publication date and follow-up check.
MOSTWA’s six-step GEO process
- Understand your business. Define services, location, customers, languages, differentiators and the enquiries you want to generate.
- Build a customer question set. Cover discovery questions, comparisons and purchase decisions in the language of your target audience.
- Measure the baseline. Record observed answers, brand mentions, cited URLs and competitor presence for the agreed tests.
- Prioritise the gaps. Identify inaccurate facts, weak service explanations, missing evidence and relevant crawl or indexing issues.
- Implement agreed improvements. Update approved content, page structure, internal links and business information. Coordinate necessary technical work with your website provider.
- Retest and review. Repeat the agreed questions, compare like-for-like results where possible and use the findings to plan the next round.
What can implementation include?
- Clear service pages: explain who you help, where you operate, what is included and how customers take the next step.
- Useful answers: address real customer questions, comparison criteria, costs and decision factors.
- Evidence and consistency: correct dates, business details, statistics and project descriptions; add sources where they substantiate a claim.
- Website structure: refine page titles, descriptions, headings, internal links and applicable structured data.
- Discovery checks: investigate access, indexability and important content availability within the agreed website access.
External profiles or publisher content can be reviewed and update requests recommended. Changes on third-party websites depend on the relevant owner or publisher.
How we measure progress
A brand mention, a cited website link and a customer enquiry are different outcomes. Reports keep these measures separate.
- Brand mention rate: the proportion of valid tested responses that name your business.
- Website citation rate: the proportion of valid tested responses linking to your website, with the cited pages recorded.
- Information accuracy: whether the observed answers correctly describe your services, location and other checked business facts.
- Competitive presence: which selected competitors appear in the same question set.
- Business response: available AI referral visits, enquiries, bookings or other agreed conversion data.
Reports identify the platform or interface, language, test date, question set and valid response count. Unavailable tests and inferred findings are labelled separately. Results can vary between runs, users, locations and models; a test sample is not a measure of all AI users.
Local experience, Chinese and English market planning
MOSTWA is a Perth-based media and advertising business with experience explaining local businesses to Chinese-speaking communities. GEO planning can focus on English-speaking customers, Chinese-speaking customers or a defined bilingual market. Suitable briefs include property, building and renovation, hospitality and professional services.
We are applying this approach to MOSTWA’s own website by clarifying business figures, expanding service information and adding sourced project records. See our Chinese marketing service guide and project records for examples of content improvements. These demonstrate the work; an independently measured increase in AI citations is not currently published.
A baseline you can inspect
Each tested response is retained separately by provider. The record includes the exact prompt, language, requested region, date, platform or collection interface, full visible answer and cited URLs. Model version, exact time, search mode and location are recorded where available; fields the source does not expose are marked unavailable.
We distinguish a provider-labelled result collected through a monitoring tool from a test performed directly in that provider’s consumer interface. Missing or failed responses are recorded separately and excluded from the valid-response denominator. We review brand aliases and citations against the original answer before relying on an automated score.
Three places where improvements may be needed
- Your website: service explanations, crawl and indexing checks, evidence, FAQs and links.
- Your other official channels: consistent names, service descriptions, contact details and links on profiles you control.
- Third-party sources: identify incorrect listings or missing project context and recommend a correction request. The publisher decides whether a change is accepted.
How do we judge progress?
Compare like-for-like question sets and keep brand mentions, website citations, factual accuracy and business enquiries separate. A published page change is a completed task; a later AI citation is an observed result. We do not treat one as proof that it caused the other.
Industry questions need different evidence
These are planning examples, not claims of completed GEO engagements in each industry.
- Real estate: seller or landlord intent, suburbs served, sales versus property management, named agents and dated listing or transaction evidence. Example: “Which agents manage rental properties in Applecross?”
- Building and renovation: project type, service area, process, quote inclusions and completed project evidence. Example: “What should a Perth renovation quote include?”
- Cosmetic and aesthetic businesses: the actual service, practitioner role, consultation process and reviewable business information. The responsible business approves health-related claims.
- Mining businesses: distinguish suppliers, corporate information and investor enquiries. Use dated company disclosures for corporate facts; do not present visibility work as investment advice or a promise of share sales.
- Professional services: the specific problem served, locations, languages, responsible professionals and enquiry process. Client information is published only with permission.

GEO service questions
How is GEO related to SEO?
SEO supports discoverability in search engines. GEO adds testing and content improvement around questions answered by generative AI systems. Both benefit from accessible pages, clear business information and useful, reliable content. Existing SEO work remains relevant.
Which AI platforms can be tested?
The test plan identifies the platforms and interfaces available for your brief, such as ChatGPT, Google’s AI search experiences or Perplexity. Coverage, language and test frequency are confirmed before work begins. A test from one model or interface is not presented as an independent result from another platform.
Can you guarantee a recommendation or first position?
No. AI providers choose which sources and businesses appear. Our service delivers agreed diagnostics, reporting and optimisation work; it does not guarantee a particular citation, recommendation, ranking or number of leads.
How long does improvement take?
Publishing an update does not mean search engines or AI systems have already processed it. Timing depends on recrawling, indexing, the question and source selection. Monthly reviews compare observed trends and completed work rather than promising an immediate result.
Do I need to rebuild my website?
Many improvements can be made to an existing website. The implementation proposal identifies the pages and technical access required. A rebuild, major development or platform migration is a separate scope if needed.
Does this include paid AI advertising?
These GEO plans cover organic visibility diagnostics, reporting and agreed optimisation. Paid advertising, media spend and third-party placement costs require a separate agreement.
What do you need to get started?
Send your business name, website, services, locations, target customers, preferred language, competitors and main enquiry goal. Monitoring can begin with public information; implementation requires appropriate website access and approval of the planned changes.
Can you work with my existing web developer?
Yes. The monthly report can guide your team or developer. For implementation projects, responsibilities, access, approvals and delivery tasks are agreed before changes are made.
